Kvarner - one of the most beautiful regions of Croatia, known for its clean sea, preserved environment, and stunning beaches. In Kvarner, you can find different types of beaches, and everyone can find one "to their liking". Whether you're looking for a beach for your family, in quieter coves, or if you're an adventurer craving active water sports, Kvarner has it all. Beaches vary from pebbly, sandy, small, large, secluded, public, organized, to natural, and in this article, we will highlight those that have particularly captivated us with their beauty and charm.
We can start with one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire Mediterranean - Klančac Beach in Brseč. Surrounded by magnificent cliffs and crystal clear sea, this beach is a true gem. While there aren't too many tourist facilities on the beach, the offerings are slowly developing. Here, you'll find a coffee machine and a stand with ice cream, canned drinks, and pancakes. Recently, a beach bar has opened, operating from early morning until evening, and weekly parties are held. However, you won't be able to rent sun loungers and umbrellas on this beach, nor will you find parking nearby.
A few kilometers further from Brseč, you'll come across Sipar Beach in Mošćenička Draga. This pebbly beach stretches for several hundred meters. You'll find everything you need, from showers, toilets, sun loungers, and umbrellas, to the possibility of renting SUPs, pedal boats, kayaks, jet skis, and even a "zorb ball". This beach is excellent for sports enthusiasts as you'll find tennis courts, bocce courts, and other sports facilities nearby. The sea along the coast is shallow, making this beach suitable for families with small children.
On the island of Krk, also known as the Island of Blue Flags, there are three beaches worth highlighting. Let's start with Vela Beach in Baška. This beach is located near the center of Baška and offers a magnificent view of the hills and crystal-clear sea. It has been awarded a blue flag, is wheelchair accessible, and is suitable for children and non-swimmers. You can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as SUP boards. There is also a nearby children's playground and tourist train for entertainment. If you get hungry after a day of fun at the beach, you can head to the nearby restaurant called Cicibela, which offers a rich gastronomic selection.
Oprna Beach in Stara Baška is considered by many to be the most beautiful on the island. However, it can only be reached by boat or on foot, making it less crowded than other beaches. This beach is smaller, stretching for about 200 meters, and there is no natural shade. Despite its small size and lack of crowds, you can still find a beach bar to cool off with your favorite drink. Although it may be more difficult to access, once you see it, you will realize that the effort to reach this beach is truly worthwhile.
Another magnificent but hard-to-reach beach is Golden Bay, also known as Velo Čelo. It is located near Stara Baška, in front of a high cliff. You cannot access this beach from the land, making it a paradise for boaters. You won't find additional facilities or tourist crowds on this beach, but you can enjoy privacy, peace, and quiet. One interesting fact is that Griffon vultures, a protected, rare species of birds, inhabit this beach.
On Cres, you must visit Sveti Ivan Beach in Lubenice and Beli Beach. Sveti Ivan Beach is hidden in a mysterious cove near Lubenice, and access to the land is difficult, but you won't encounter large crowds here either. Sun loungers are not available, nor are there additional facilities, but this beach will captivate you with its peace, silence, and the scent of pine forests. In contrast, Beli Beach is located in the village of the same name, right next to the tiny harbor, surrounded by stone walls and old stone houses. Many facilities are available on this beach and nearby, such as catering facilities, toilets and showers, diving bases, shops, parking lots, and many more. If you prefer privacy, you will find it on neighboring beaches.
The final beach on our list is Veli Žal Beach in Mali Lošinj, located just a kilometer away from the city center. This beach has many extra facilities available for visitors, including catering establishments, showers, changing cabins, and a variety of sports facilities such as handball, basketball, and tennis courts. It is also accessible for people with disabilities, and during the season, a lifeguard will be present to ensure visitors' safety. Additionally, there are pine forests surrounding the beach, which provide natural shade.
These beaches are just some of the gems of Kvarner waiting for you to discover them. Whether you're looking for an active vacation or a relaxing atmosphere, the beaches of Kvarner offer something for everyone.
